15_january_2015A letter a day to number 10. No 975

Thursday 15 January 2015.

Dear Mr Cameron,

It seems that George Osborne has told the Times, “I couldn’t have been clearer that our plans do not involve tax increases, including VAT, because our plans involve cutting public expenditure and saving on welfare budgets.”

How casually he throws out these little nuggets of information as if he’s talking about a little bluster of inclement weather. The poorest and most vulnerable people will pay even more whilst the all-party parliamentary inquiry into hunger in the UK finds that “Hunger stalks this country.”

Iain Duncan Smith, responding to criticism from Labour, insists his welfare reforms have delivered great improvements. No, they have not. Iain Duncan Smith and George Osborne are tearing the poor and the country apart. Thousands have already died and Osbornes plans will cause untold more deaths aided and abetted by Smiths Universal Credit disaster and sanctions regime.

Sir Bob Kerslake, the former head of the civil service has said that a “culture of good news” in the DWP prevented Smith from recognising and admitting that Universal Credit was “undeliverable”. Smith proclaims his triumphalism like a mad demonic trumpet tooting angel of death insisting that, “disabled people would be made free by working”. So sure is Smith of his miraculous abilities he doesn’t think that disabled people need any help to live an independent life and is therefore getting rid of the Independent Living Fund.

After Osbornes Autumn statement the Institute for Fiscal Studies warned that 60% of planned spending cuts are yet to come. Of course there has been and will be no impact assessments for these cuts, you have demonised the poor so successfully that hard working tax payers will welcome the cuts and be glad to see the poor and disabled culled. Disability hate crime has risen 213% since 2007/08 fuelled by benefits propaganda, so we’re ripe for the picking.

David Freud insisted that “people who are poorer should be prepared to take the biggest risks – they’ve got least to lose”, he insisted he understood the reality of living on benefits, arguing “you don’t have to be the corpse to go to a funeral”. The poor pay the ultimate price and you and your government think that is OK, even down to mocking and jeering us in parliament. The minds and actions of the privileged are a disease in these islands.
