Dear Mr Cameron,
Britain under the boot heels of the Tories!
As we blunder into the chaos of the transition of support for disabled people from the closure of the Independent Living Fund (ILF) to, as yet, unknown local authority provision the horror stories are emerging just four days after closure.
Disability News Service reports: “One female ILF-user told the (#SaveILF) campaign that she had been informed that her previous package of seven hours a day of ILF care and five of council care was going to be cut to just three hours a day in total.
She was told that she would have to use incontinence pads, which would help her to “be more independent” as she would no longer have to rely on other people to take her to the toilet.”
It was announced in 2010 that the ILF would close but the final date was given by Mike Penning on 6 March 2014. That no one knows what provision will be made for and by local authorities now that the ILF has closed, it is left to our imagination to wonder why? Either you are a bunch of utter incompetents or this is deliberate policy to cause the maximum disruption and distress to disabled people. Whichever it is, and my money’s on the latter, it is inexcusable. People literally do not know what is going to happen to their lives and they have been abandoned with vital, immediate, daily, primary life needs unmet. Loss of support will put their lives at risk as this is a life and death matter.
For someone to suggest that sitting in shit and piss is an aid to independent living is so despicably vile it leaves me gagging for air. Yet this is all of piece with Tory policy which considers slashing benefits as the way to make work on poverty wages pay. This is the kind of double speak we’ve come to expect in Tory Britain.
Has it never occurred to you how dependent you are, indeed we all are? Who made the shirt on your back I wonder, who wove the cloth and from what and who transported it on every step of it’s journey to it’s luckless end on your back? Look around you and just for once appreciate the millions of people you rely on every day to provide any human made ‘thing’ you can see, often with the help of animals (Milk does not come from fairies). That cow you hand fed for a photo op on your election campaign (yeesh), did you thank it for the life of sacrifice it was doubtless headed for? Being dependent on others is not a failing, it’s what living is all about. What do they teach you at Eton?
Your treatment of disabled people, denying them human help, is like something dreamed up by demons from hell. Words fail me!
