23_july_2015A letter a day to number 10. No 1,156

Thursday 23 July 2015.

Dear Mr Cameron,

George Osborne has announced a further £20 billion of cuts in November. Austerity is no longer ‘ideological’, it’s a weapon of mass destruction, not so much cuts as an extinction event for the poor. Even Jesus got it wrong when he said, ‘The poor you will always have with you’, clearly he hadn’t taken into account the present Tory government.

This comes mere days after a glorious freebie handout to the wealthy in inheritance tax and a corporate tax cut, the lowest in the G7 group of leading economies, which according to the Financial times will cost us more than £5 billion a year. Since 2009 Britain’s billionaires have seen their wealth double with the 1,000 richest families now controlling a total of £547 billion, more than that of the poorest 40%, or 10,560,000, of British households.

The sheer magnitude of the violence of these cuts is utterly staggering, that this violence is being perpetrated to reward the rich is beyond any words I have to describe it.

People are already dying because of your welfare reforms, such that Iain Duncan Smith steadfastly refuses to release the figures despite being ordered to do so by the Information Commissioner and now openly displays his bestial joy as the poor are cut down, even sneering at the 48 Labour MPs who broke ranks to vote against your latest welfare reform bill.

It now emerges that Smith wants to expunge the words “child poverty” from the Child Poverty Act, to be renamed the Orwellian, ‘Life Chances Act’, just as sick and disabled people are now tested for work capability, not on their needs and how ill or disabled they are and as far back as 2010 the traditional ‘sick note’ was renamed the ‘Fit Note’.

The man is not intelligent enough to be doing this alone, how many people are being paid from the public purse to come up with this filth?

The ever growing dictatorial nature of authoritarian Conservatism is a global phenomenon in which the word ‘austerity’ is used as smoke screen to assault the poor in what amounts to little more than a genocidal orgy of hate and, as we’ve seen with Greece, entire nations are being subjugated in this war on the poor in which austerity is, in reality, the chosen weapon of mass destruction of the state.
