06_november_2015A letter a day to number 10. No 1,251

Friday 06 November 2015.

Dear Mr Cameron,

It is always difficult to express the depths of corruption and deceit of you and your government, not least because you combine a mixture of low cunning with a breathtaking amount of utter stupidity.

To put the deficit, welfare reforms, sanctions, record numbers of evictions, the astronomic rise in food bank usage, up to 20 million in poverty with the majority in work, forcing the poor to pay off the national debt, into a corporate context would be the equivalent of ‘blaming the janitor’ for the entire corrupt, wilful and dismal, failings of the company.

When Freud said, ‘people who are poorer should be prepared to take the biggest risks” as they have “the least to lose,’ he was effectively saying the janitor must be hung out to dry to pay for the companies failings and to ensure its recovery. And who is to blame for the ever growing inequality in Europe’s most unequal country? The janitor.

Of course the entire edifice of UK plc fell over because the janitor is a lazy scrounger and must be incentivised by stopping her pay, including any employee benefits, and forcing her to work harder for longer for nothing on a contract that offers her no guaranteed hours of actual work.

To promote this level of economic illiteracy and profound stupidity requires a high order of spin, lies and meaningless sound bites – ‘Making work pay’ – ‘For hard working people’ – ‘Compassionate Tories’ – ‘The party for working people’. Our janitor, however, is off to the food bank, half starved because she is feeding her kids and going without herself. The company directors deny any causal link between no pay and her using a food bank and put it down to the janitors poor budgeting skills. Reports of starvation are dismissed as merely anecdotal and nothing to do with being denied the means of survival.

Meanwhile, the super rich who actually have all the money, proving that when the going gets tough, the rich get going, are buying up bolt holes to escape to just in case the janitor and her mates get a bit uppity about being royally ripped off. Those, of course, who are still alive.
