17_november_2015A letter a day to number 10. No 1,258

Tuesday 17 November 2015.

Dear Mr Cameron,

I am sick to death of being regarded and treated as a lower class of being in this country by an elitist government determined to keep robbing the poor to pay down the deficit. Osborne made it clear in his summer budget that the poor are responsible for Britain’s deficit and debt, ‘So those who oppose any savings to Tax Credits will have to explain how on earth they propose to eliminate the deficit, let alone run a surplus and pay down debt’.

Osborne is so contemptuous of us he really doesn’t care that corporate welfare amounts to £93 billion with never a word about belt tightening or sharing a penny of the burden being heaped on the poor.

Osborne has also raised the inheritance tax threshold and lowered corporation tax, so the poorest people in society are being robbed to pay welfare for the rich. It is extremely doubtful that a cut in corporation tax will translate into any increase in wages as they continue to fall which, since 2010, is the longest period for 50 years according to the Office for National Statistics.

This enormous transfer of wealth upwards means that the poor simply cannot afford the rich. Osborne might well say that ‘Britain is open for business’, but it isn’t open for the business of living for ordinary people.

Osborne said in his summer budget, ‘We have to move Britain from a low-wage, high-tax, high-welfare society to a higher-wage, lower-tax, lower-welfare economy’, by which he meant lower-welfare for the poor as he continues to protect and reward the rich.

Iain Duncan Smith is going ahead  with is plan to  strip tens of thousands of disabled and chronically ill people of almost £30 a week in support, which, as it happens, is the same price as a heavy duty body-bag (inc. VAT), although I am sure that price will rocket with ever increasing demand on the (not so) free markets.
