Friday 05 February 2016.

Dear Mr Cameron,

Whilst George Osborne and Iain Duncan Smith attack Britain’s social safety net which Osborne claims must be done to pay down the deficit, his mates rates tax deal with Google has seen them walk away with some £665 million of the £800 million owed in taxes, according to the Independent newspaper.

This is a triple whammy for those of us who do pay our taxes. Corporations like Google get all the benefits of Britain’s infrastructure whilst paying a pittance for the privilege leaving the rest of us to pick up the tab. Google avoiding paying their share of taxes means the ordinary people of this country are also burdened with filling the hole left in public finances by Google.

Thirdly, George Osborne’s and Iain Duncan Smith’s attacks on poor and vulnerable people through brutal cuts and welfare reforms target those least able to bear the burden whilst benefiting and rewarding those most able.

The poor are literally paying for the rich and dying in the process.

It matters not whether you call it tax avoidance or tax evasion, the truth is that these fat cat corporations are robbing the British public aided and abetted by your government. Osborne has even secretly lobbied the EU to remove Google’s preferred Bermudan tax haven from the EU black list.

Three days ago the BBC reported that Iain Duncan Smiths Personal Independence Payment (PIP) benefit denial system has seen 13,900 disabled people lose their Motability allowance and therefore their means of transport and, of course, their personal independence. Meanwhile Google are free to drive their camera cars around Britain at disabled people’s expense.

Tax evasion and avoidance are not victimless crimes, they affect everyone in the UK, not least in health and welfare. Google’s tax deal, declared by Osborne to be a ‘major success’ is anything but for those deprived of any independent means to get around or who are waiting for operations or losing vital care services. Shame on you and your government and every tax dodging criminal in the UK, you and they are a blight on society.
