The bible is a remarkable book, it has influenced and shaped world history for nearly 2000 years. It is an apocryphal tale which many believe is literally the word of God, yet even if taken literally, those who do so interpret it wildly to suit any agenda they wish to pursue, hence the many and diverse Christian factions and churches.

Whilst it is a very difficult book to wade through, it is a book I recommend highly to critical and wary readers (treat it with all the respect you might a stick of dynamite on which the fuse is lit) because we are all, to a greater or lesser extent, affected by its outworking in history to the present day.

Put very simply the bible is a book of Law and Grace and a tale of the abject failure of human kind to work out their affairs justly under the rule of law without the necessary application of grace, consideration and loving kindness. To this day it is easy to see that the world is dominated by biblical Pharisees, those who adhere to the rigid dogma of law and claim moral and spiritual superiority, against those of a more common and gentle nature who live by the virtues of loving kindness and social justice to whom moral and spiritual superiority hold no interest.

Today, then, I give you, the Tories and those who they consider to be ‘stock’ (especially those unable to work), the common herd, ordinary people. It is no small thing that Theresa May is the daughter of a Church of England Vicar, the Rev. Hubert Brasier, yet she exhibits all the traits of a brutal dictator and none of the virtues of Christ. Her religion is the religion of money, the unrestrained free markets, the destruction of public services, the robbing of the wealth of the nation and the deprivation, penalisation and hounding of the poor and most vulnerable people in society to death.

Recent events have shown that Theresa May is a horrific grasper after power at any price to pursue her dogma of social destruction and regression, the pursuit of the transfer of public wealth into private hands and the wanton destruction of our public services including our NHS.

It is into this social crisis that Jeremy Corbyn has emerged, against all the odds and political (including those in his own party) and media machinations and forces raised against him. A champion of the underdogs, defender of the rights of ordinary people, a fierce campaigner for social justice, a straight talking, plain speaking man of the people who has been accused of inciting religious fervour and even casting an ‘Orphic spell’ (by Boris Johnson) over the minds of the dumb masses and who ironically and coincidentally shares the same initials as the beardie chap of the biblical New Testament.

It is a modern epic of good versus evil and the stuff of every fairy tale since time began, except this time we are living it and the price for ordinary people is monstrous. On the one hand we have a conniving, lying, cheating, stealing party of the rich and powerful against Jeremy Corbyn and all those who champion social justice, in which I happily include myself, the cares and concerns of ordinary people and the well being and interests of the many and not just the privileged few.

For all those who see themselves small in their own eyes, who face the vast forces of modern day oppression, not knowing what to do, how to express their fears and who feel they have no voice and still less anyone to listen, a glimmer, and for many, a beacon, of hope has emerged. It is not down to one man and yet that one man has become, rightly, the political focus of millions. Everything that Theresa May aspires to in her wickedness and manipulation, and yet fails utterly, Corbyn achieves through plain speaking and shared humanity.

Every step of social progress we have ever made against rich and powerful interests has come through struggle, from the bottom up, through the engagement of ordinary people against the enormous power of the privileged few. That struggle is, I hope, reaching an historic climax, one that is long overdue. A climax that will not be the end, but promises to be a new beginning if we hold true to our vision. It is a struggle that needs every voice and the concerted action of all those who see themselves small who together can bring about the social change which millions of people in Britain and the wider world are crying out for.

This piece is entitled, ‘Who dares despise the day of small things?’ I have unashamedly ripped it out of any biblical context quite deliberately, and I apply it to my own faltering footsteps in life, and to every life struggling to take one step at a time in these unbelievably difficult times against the vicious forces which oppose us. I offer it as a compliment and a celebration of modest lives and modest aspirations, which collectively can make a difference. Those with power, through wealth, status and influence (by which I mean the mogul owned and driven media) will do anything and everything to crush us, as they have always done in times past.

Theresa May and the Tories know what they are up against and they are desperate, afraid and in complete chaos, even buying a few extra votes for a billion pounds. It is within our power to keep them in disarray and to oust them, let’s do just that, for all our sakes. The power grubbers hate Jeremy Corbyn with a raging passion, there is no shame in loving him and looking forward to him being Prime Minister.

Since 2010 we have witnessed and experienced seven long years of bitter Conservative betrayals, from David Cameron’s pledge that there would be no top down reorganisation of the NHS to the horrific fire in Grenfell Tower which follows the Conservatives voting down in 2016 a Labour amendment to the government’s housing and planning bill to ensure rented homes are fit for human habitation.

The depth of crisis in the NHS is so catastrophic that it should be on life support, except there is no life support and it has been driven to what the Red Cross has called a humanitarian crisis by government policy.

In 2014 London firemen wept as Boris Johnson closed down ten fire stations which was preceded by selling off London’s fleet of fire engines for £2 to a newly formed company with one sole director, Sir Aubrey Thomas Brocklebank, an old Etonian with a dubious business history.

These are just the tip of a despicable iceberg of Tory corruption and betrayals since 2010 and the worst of it is that they have lied and lied and lied their way through their misanthropic neoliberal betrayal of Britain.

Cartoonists across the world are mocking Theresa May for her posturing over Brexit and a BBC reporter laughed in the face of Conservative MP Alan Mak when he spouted May’s meaningless trope, ‘strong and stable’.

Whatever the outcome of the General Election, the election is not the issue and the result is not the problem, the problem is that the Tories are not fit to hold office. That and only that is the problem and the Tories are determined to continue driving the UK into the ground.

It is frequently and casually reported (I’ve done it myself) that Britain is one of the richest countries in the world. In March this year the New World Wealth’s Global Wealth Review placed Britain in fourth place in terms of private wealth in 2016. It may seem impressive but it fails to acknowledge that Britain is one of the most unequal countries in the world where the richest 1% (634,000 people) own more than 20 times the total wealth of the poorest fifth (13 million people). Yes that does read ‘twenty times’ the combined wealth of 13 million people. The reality is that in food bank Britain the vast majority of people are completely excluded from any share in the nations wealth and Tory policies ensure and drive this vast wealth division.

Conservative policies are killing people in their thousands, excess deaths by cuts were reported to be 27,000 in 2015 alone.

Whatever secret deals Theresa May is conducting behind closed doors with the DUP to secure a fragile majority in order to continue her betrayal of Britain the only significant and relevant fact for the lives of millions of people in Britain is that she and her party are not fit to hold office. Forget election results and look at the results of seven years of austerity and the suffering they have presided over and the deaths which they are so comfortable with causing, yet deny their existence. That is not democracy that is genocide. That is not a ballot box issue, it is a humanitarian issue of crimes against life. Britain does not merely need a change of political party in government, it needs an end to the most brutal regime in our history which has rightly been compared to the rise of Hitler and the Nazis.

A letter a day to number 10. No 1,488

Saturday 09 July 2016.

Dear Mr Cameron,

What the EU referendum and the Chilcot report have brought into the spotlight is something that has been glaringly obvious for a very long time, we can no longer afford or tolerate the lack, indeed the absence, of government accountability.

Aside from banking and the financial markets, witness the 2008 financial crisis and post Brexit behaviour, no other form of employment enjoys such complete protection from being held accountable for policies and decisions which affect vast numbers of people at such great personal cost.

No one should be above the law and given that we are, in reality, not all equal before the law, the current situation needs turning on its head. Currently, those with the least have the least protection in law, whilst those with the most have the most protection.

There is no justice as long as a 23-year-old can be jailed for six months for stealing £3.50 worth of water bottles from a supermarket during the 2011 riots whilst not a single banker has been prosecuted for the financial crisis.

You made an election pledge in 2010 that there would be no more top down reorganisations of the NHS, yet the The Health and Social Care Act 2012 ‘Abolished the Secretary of State for Health’s ‘duty to provide’ a national health service throughout England’. That act of social vandalism effectively spelled the end of the NHS which has been stealthily and deceitfully pursued ever since.

Currently, Britain is a rudderless ship, you have washed your hands of Britain following the vote to leave the EU and the three most prominent Brexiteers, Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and Nigel Farage, have all walked away following their campaigns of deceit. I also note that Priti Patel has crawled under a stone and is keeping damned quiet. Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, has mocked their behaviour and accused them of abandoning ship, as he put it, “I would have thought that they would have had a plan. Instead of developing a plan they are leaving the boat.” Not forgetting that you had no plan for such an eventuality either.

George Orwell’s Animal Farm could have been written for Britain today – ‘all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others’. It was no accidental flight of writers fancy that this was said by a bunch of greedy self serving pigs.

A letter a day to number 10. No 1,482

Sunday 03 July 2016.

Dear Mr Cameron,

James Traub, unsurprisingly a member of the ignorant social elites, has written the following, “It’s time for the elites to rise up against the ignorant masses. The Brexit has laid bare the political schism of our time. It’s not about the left vs. the right; it’s about the sane vs. the mindlessly angry…”. He goes on, “The Republican Party, already rife with science-deniers and economic reality-deniers, has thrown itself into the embrace of a man (Donald Trump) who fabricates realities that ignorant people like to inhabit.

“Did I say “ignorant”? Yes, I did. It is necessary to say that people are deluded and that the task of leadership is to un-delude them.

“Is that “elitist”? Maybe it is; maybe we have become so inclined to celebrate the authenticity of all personal conviction that it is now elitist to believe in reason, expertise, and the lessons of history.”

As with all elites, Traub plays fast and loose with reality to suit his own prejudices and purposes. The elites do not fabricate realities that ignorant people like to inhabit, they fabricate the realities that they want the masses to inhabit. From Edward Bernays, the father of PR and mass social manipulation, to Alastair Campbell, Tony Blair’s Director of Communications and Strategy who was involved in the preparation of the infamous “Dodgy Dossier”, to Lynton Crosby, your own political strategist, known as the “master of the dark political arts”, confounding and manipulating the public is big business for those intent on self serving misrule. Propaganda is the raison d’etre for news rags like the Sun, Mail and the Express.

The so called elites run the world and are exclusively, and historically, responsible for the mess we’re in. Whilst ordinary people were busy working, earning a crust on minimum wage, being forced into debt whilst producing, above all, profit, it was the elite bankers who crashed the global economy. And who was forced to pay? The chaos surrounding the EU referendum was manufactured from on high, not least by you, Boris Johnson and Michael Gove, and whilst the ‘ignorant masses’ have taken the blame as ever, Gove is now looking to replace you as prime minister because you’ve washed your hands of the whole filthy business. If the masses are angry it is because they are sick and tired of the lies and deceits of the elites and suffering and dying as a consequence of the vile abuses of the ruling elites.

If Traub wants to learn the lessons of history, he should look to the French revolution which was not triggered by the masses, it was triggered by the wholesale abuses of the aristocracy and the elites who were starving the people to death. Traub in his arrogance accuses the masses of mindless anger. Believe me, the anger is not mindless, it is very focused, it is the rage of the abused. It may appear chaotic and disorganised, the reaction to oppression often is, but the rage is just, as is its purpose. The terror that Corbyn invokes in the minds of elitists, is that he is on the protests and picket lines for organised justice, a man of peace and a man of the people and all you elitists are on the wrong side of the protests and picket lines and, indeed, the wrong side of history. And you never learn.

Friday 01 July 2016.

Dear Mr Cameron,

When Michael Gove said that ‘people in this country have had enough of experts’, he did something rather spectacular which sums up the problems of our time and the referendum. As a media savvy elitist, he spun a deliberate falsehood which meant that people opening their door to find some kind of sense, reason or expertise were first met by people like Gove, not to mention you and Johnson, who had set themselves up as guardians of the lie blocking the door and befouling the road to any kind of truth.

So sure and certain is Gove in his awe inspiring arrogance, he’s standing to be the next leader of your party and so great is his overweening confidence in his feudal arrogance, he probably dines off the backs of serfs laden with platters glazed with the Union Jack.

Yes, the Union Jack, that national symbol of Britain’s greatness, a symbol of imperial might, ownership, rulership, war and oppression (what else are flags for?). Small wonder you have adopted it for your party logo as you drive us back to the heady days when people knew their place and were dutifully subservient to their masters and betters who so utterly despised them, as now.

It reminds me of my early days of writing to you. I was contacted by someone who told me I had no idea how to write a proper letter to the Prime Minister of Great Britain and proceeded to rewrite one of my letters, with never a care for asking my permission, into official, respectful, meaningless gobbledygook. The poor chap was most put out when I refused his noble efforts to educate me into the language of proper servitude.

I was incredibly impressed by Boris Johnson’s Brexit speech, he had all the conviction of a man speaking at his own funeral. It is of no surprise that he will not be contesting the Tory leadership because he is too craven to sup from the poison chalice he himself filled. Bad career choice, eh?

War is the sport of those who rule, Mr Cameron, and what a bloody war it is that you wage against us. You gave us a referendum, but none have sought to manipulate the result more than you and your band of liars who would never trust us with a free and informed vote. You’ve all made it the most divisive vote in our history.

Whatever happens now, one thing is sure, the war on the poor will continue, Osborne has promised us that. However the vote went, we would be punished, we had austerity before the vote and we’ll have austerity after, people will die but that means nothing to you. Whatever happens, you are certain of your own life of luxury in which betrayal is the most valuable coinage. For you it’s a game, for us it is deadly, because only we pay the price. In an uncertain world, that is certain.

Boris Johnson ‘takes the coward’s way out’ in the face of Michael Gove’s betrayal

29_june_2016

A letter a day to number 10. No 1,478

Wednesday 29 June 2016.

Dear Mr Cameron,

The European adventure has been an attempt to create a vast mono-culture of diverse nations, unelected, unaccountable and opaque, dominated by cultural and economic elites who are in no way democratically answerable to the people of the various nations which comprise it.

The referendum has been dominated by scapegoating by many who are determined to be victims blasting out as much hate and vitriol as possible from their bunkers of moral superiority. It is the most loathsome, ugly, spectacle I have ever witnessed.

The binary choice that was offered to the nation, and viciously maintained by those leading both Tory campaigns, was a united flag of big Europe or a united flag of little Britain. Both were false and steeped in the interests of a self serving elite.

The result, accompanied by wailing and gnashing of the teeth of biblical proportions, has been spectacular as the financial markets have caused a plunge in the value of sterling. Let’s bear in mind though that the markets are beholden to no one other than themselves and money, as too are Standard and Poor’s, Fitch and Moody’s, privateer rating agencies which have stripped the rating of the pound. Democracy has no part in the markets and George Osborne has left them to play fast and loose with our economy with no Brexit plan in place and now entirely abandoned by Osborne, having washed his hands of the whole affair as, indeed, have you.

Such is the supreme arrogance of you and your party, you are all blithely carrying on as if you had nothing to do with the mess you’ve created and are now talking about a leadership election which includes the very people who are responsible for the current chaos and who have lied through their teeth, yet who now steadfastly deny any such thing. As Nick Cohen’s headline in the Guardian put it, ‘There are liars and then there’s Boris Johnson and Michael Gove’.

There is a victim in all this and I am far from alone in naming and highlighting it. What lies in tatters, shredded and trampled underfoot, is democracy. Instead of the titan it should be, it has become a rabbit, caught in the headlights of unaccountable power and smashed under the wheels of arrogant, elite, supremacists who have nothing but contempt for it and, therefore, the people. That is why we are in this mess and nothing will be gained until and unless the people lift up it’s precious fractured carcass and breath some shuddering life into it and rise up and hold it high. It will take some alchemy to transform the rabbit into a lion, and that alchemy is entirely the will of the people. Weeping will avail us nothing, only the roar of a people aroused to action to end the dominance of the elitist, greedy, few at the vast expense of the many.

Tuesday 28 June 2016.

Dear Mr Cameron,

This was reported on Sky news, a conservative MP who was a member of the leave campaign was asked by Sky News Political Editor Faisal Islam, “Where’s the plan, can we see the Brexit plan now?” The response was, ‘there is no plan’, not from the Tory Leave campaigners, nor from your office. The MP apparently said, “Number 10 should have had a plan.” True, but what a cop out!

You made the EU referendum a manifesto pledge and, for once, carried out that pledge and yet made no effort to put together a Brexit plan and nor did those who campaigned for Brexit. One of two things apply here, either you are all utterly incompetent or you were all so certain that the nation would vote to stay in the EU that not one of you thought it was even worth the bother to come up with a plan.

You, George Osborne, Boris Johnson, Michael Gove, Priti Patel and Iain Duncan Smith, six major Tory players and not one of you did a damned thing to produce an exit strategy. After all the scare mongering and lies, you come up with zilch, nothing, and now you are going to waltz off into the sunset and leave the problem to whichever incompetent numbskull takes your place.

Osborne has announced that he’s going to do nothing to mitigate the impact of Brexit, leaving it until the autumn when the new Prime Minister is in place. All of you are washing your hands of any responsibility or accountability for the referendum.

There is an incredible outpouring of vitriol and hate towards those who voted for Brexit as the pound has fallen in value. The financial markets have a loyalty to no one but themselves no matter how much damage they inflict in their greed and George Osborne is giving them free reign to do their worst but few seemingly care about that.

As John Pilger has written in the days following the vote, ‘The most effective propagandists of the “European ideal” have…’ been ‘an insufferably patrician class for whom metropolitan London is the United Kingdom…’ who have ‘gloated, day after day, at those who would even consider the EU profoundly undemocratic, a source of social injustice and a virulent extremism known as “neoliberalism”. The aim of this extremism is to install a permanent, capitalist theocracy that ensures a two-thirds society, with the majority divided and indebted, managed by a corporate class, and a permanent working poor.’ In other words the Tory idyll which has taken shape in Britain for six years of Tory abuse. Where is the rage against that?

Monday 27 June 2016.

Dear Mr Cameron,

If anything should have been learnt from the referendum, although I do not think it has yet been properly driven home, it is the utter scorn and contempt which the so called elites have for ordinary people.

I was reading an article on the upcoming Tory leadership ‘race’ and came across this little nugget regarding Michael Gove and Boris Johnson. A friend of Johnson apparently said, “I think a Boris/Michael dream ticket would be the most likely. Perhaps with Michael as Boris’s chancellor.”

You’ll have to forgive my cognitive dissonance, but ‘dream ticket’? The reward for misleading the Tory Brexit campaign is that Boris Johnson could be the next Prime Minister and Michael Gove, the man who stated, ‘people in this country have had enough of experts’, as chancellor of the exchequer? If an economically illiterate George Osborne can make an utter pigs breakfast of the economy, what is a cloud cuckoo cuckoo land Gove going to do?

It must also be noted that at a time of intense uncertainty over Europe and a change of leadership in your party, fools within the Labour party have taken it upon themselves to challenge the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn. Contempt for the electorate and the well being of the nation is not restricted to you Tories, although I am pleased to see that those involved have been given short shrift.

What matters, and matters crucially, here is the utter disdain and contempt for the people of this country by those who exert their arrogance and privilege for entirely self serving reasons.

I mentioned the petition yesterday calling for another referendum, there is a lot that is wrong headed about this, but high on the list has to be that unless there is political reform in this country in which the government and ‘serving’ members of parliament are held to account by the people, nothing is going to get better.

Every member of parliament should have one burning agenda and duty right now and that is the well being and security of the people of this country. You have spent six years dismantling Britain, you have failed the people of Britain in every conceivable way and that very much includes the handling of the referendum. Britain’s future is what matters right now and any and every politician with any agenda other than the well being of this nation is an enemy of the people. No if’s, no but’s! Do your jobs or get out!

Sunday 26 June 2016.

Dear Mr Cameron,

There is a shit storm sweeping this country and why? Because too many politicians lie through their teeth and cannot be trusted to tell the time of day unless you’re standing next to Big Ben. That’s why.

There is now a petition calling for a second referendum, currently standing at 2,002,902 signatures, yes that’s 2 million signatures (in one day). I’ll sign it when I hear that every politician that lied in the referendum would be chained and gagged and locked in the Tower of London for the duration.

I am sure you know by now that Boris Johnson was booed resoundingly as he left his home on Friday without a word of apology and that Nigel Farage has had the temerity to call the Leave campaign’s £350 million for the NHS a ‘mistake’. The UK Statistics Authority called it ‘misleading’ and the Institute for Fiscal Studies said it was ‘absurd’ and yet this misleading absurdity was used till the bitter end.

Let’s not forget the fear mongering either, more candidates for the Tower, gagged and shackled. Your own warning of the potential for a European wide conflict if we leave the EU was dutifully reported by the media as a warning that ‘Brexit’ could trigger World War Three.

The real biggie, of course, was immigration, with Farage’s now infamous ‘Breaking Point’ poster to cap it all off.

Special mention, though, must go to Michael Gove who said, ‘People in this country have had enough of experts’. Perhaps what he should have said was that experts had been so successfully drowned out by political and media bullshit like his that trying to make any sense of the referendum was nigh on impossible. Credibility was successfully stretched to breaking point by relentless lies and spin from corrupt and venal politicians manufacturing chaos.

There is a whole lot of blaming going on right now. The country is bitterly divided, but there is really only one enemy, those who practice to deceive and the tangled web they have wilfully and deliberately woven. Were I a more vengeful and blood thirsty man I’d say hang the lot of you, but I’ll settle for forced incarceration in the Tower of London as long as there is a public gallery where we can mock you and listen to your pathetic bleating against the justice visited upon you. A handy trough of fruit and veg well past it’s sell by date would not go amiss either: good therapy. Boris got off lightly.

A letter a day to number 10. No 1,471

Wednesday 22 June 2016.

Dear Mr Cameron,

The one thing I can say about the EU referendum and the Tory campaign is that it has been run by the fantastically corrupt for the fantastically corrupt.

I have never witnessed a more brutally corrupt campaign which has sowed discord and confusion at every step of the way.

Ipsos MORI found that 47 per cent of the public believe the claim that we pay £350 million a week to the European Union. Why would they not? It is a lie that has been ruthlessly promoted with malicious intent.

I saw some clips of you in a TV studio facing the public. What boggles my mind is that people would actually go to such an event, sit docilely in seats and ask you questions as if anything you say will be of any value to them whatsoever.

In America snake oil salesmen used to go around the country preying on folks with their magic elixirs of life. In Britain people will happily attend a TV event to participate in the same sort of flannel from politicians who not only have a vested interest in lying but have a proven track record. Isn’t that so, Mr no more top down reorganisations of the NHS?

Michael Gove, Boris Johnson and Priti Patel all claim that money saved from EU membership can be spent on the NHS. These are Tory policy decisions that are not in the remit of any of those politicians and I have heard no such commitment from you, Jeremy Hunt or George Osborne in the event of a majority vote for Britain’s exit. As such these ‘suggestions’ do not represent real term benefits, they are mere speculation against the facts over the last six years which show that the break up and privatisation of the NHS is inevitable due to Tory policy and a deliberate starvation of funds.

The reality is that Jeremy Hunt and Simon Stevens, CEO of NHS England, have launched their ‘Footprints’ plan which will close services and sell off NHS land and hospitals which, unless we fight them tooth and nail, will happen regardless of the EU result. Part of that plan is to reduce the number of A&E departments from 144 A&E departments in England (2013 figure) to only 40-70. This is social vandalism by stealth on a grand scale for which you have absolutely no political mandate.

I can do no better than repeat the words of Aneurin Bevan in 1956 for today, you Tories have “besmirched the name of Britain. You have made us ashamed of the things of which formerly we were proud. You have offended against every principle of decency and there is only one way in which you can even begin to restore your tarnished reputation and that is to get out! Get out! Get out!”
