A letter a day to number 10. No 1,541

Friday 02 September 2016.

Dear Mrs May,

Jeremy Hunt has accused junior doctors of inflicting ‘the worst doctors’ strike in NHS history’. It is hardly surprising given that we are afflicted with the worst health secretary in history.

What is more worrying is that the rest of the nation is not striking as Hunt and CEO of NHS England, Simon Stevens, are about to crucify our NHS by reducing the 140 full A&E hospitals in England we had in 2013 to somewhere between 40 and 70 under their so called ‘Sustainability and Transformation Plans’.

The NHS and the country is now split into 44 regional areas – known as ‘footprints’ which have been labelled the ‘The 44 footprints of death’.

This national vandalism being inflicted on our NHS is, as far as I can see, the final nail in the coffin for our publicly funded, publicly owned, free at the point of use NHS paving the way for full privatisation and an American style health insurance system.

Stevens used to be President of Global Strategy for United Health of America where he apparently lobbied for healthcare around the world to be included in the despicable Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. This is the wolf who is now CEO of NHS England.

I am sure Hunt must be delighted that his lousy junior doctors contract is hogging the headlines. The vast majority of the general public seem to be completely unaware of Stevens’ plans or the impact they will have. We the public must be prepared for longer ambulance journeys for A&E treatments which for critical patients will put lives at risk, longer waiting times for treatment adding to the risk of increased patient deaths and including the possibility of paying extra to be seen by a doctor.

Eamonn Holmes gave Hunt a grilling yesterday on Sky News over the junior doctors strike. Hunt, as he so often does these days, looked like a rabbit caught in headlights, but he must have been secretly delighted that Holmes made no mention of the obscene acts of social vandalism being rolled out by Hunt and Stevens.

The bottom line is that this is all about profits before people and healthcare and it is utterly despicable.

Watch – This will be “the worst doctors’ strike in NHS history,” claims Hunt

Dear Mr Cameron,

The one thing I can say about the EU referendum and the Tory campaign is that it has been run by the fantastically corrupt for the fantastically corrupt.

I have never witnessed a more brutally corrupt campaign which has sowed discord and confusion at every step of the way.

Ipsos MORI found that 47 per cent of the public believe the claim that we pay £350 million a week to the European Union. Why would they not? It is a lie that has been ruthlessly promoted with malicious intent.

I saw some clips of you in a TV studio facing the public. What boggles my mind is that people would actually go to such an event, sit docilely in seats and ask you questions as if anything you say will be of any value to them whatsoever.

In America snake oil salesmen used to go around the country preying on folks with their magic elixirs of life. In Britain people will happily attend a TV event to participate in the same sort of flannel from politicians who not only have a vested interest in lying but have a proven track record. Isn’t that so, Mr no more top down reorganisations of the NHS?

Michael Gove, Boris Johnson and Priti Patel all claim that money saved from EU membership can be spent on the NHS. These are Tory policy decisions that are not in the remit of any of those politicians and I have heard no such commitment from you, Jeremy Hunt or George Osborne in the event of a majority vote for Britain’s exit. As such these ‘suggestions’ do not represent real term benefits, they are mere speculation against the facts over the last six years which show that the break up and privatisation of the NHS is inevitable due to Tory policy and a deliberate starvation of funds.

The reality is that Jeremy Hunt and Simon Stevens, CEO of NHS England, have launched their ‘Footprints’ plan which will close services and sell off NHS land and hospitals which, unless we fight them tooth and nail, will happen regardless of the EU result. Part of that plan is to reduce the number of A&E departments from 144 A&E departments in England (2013 figure) to only 40-70. This is social vandalism by stealth on a grand scale for which you have absolutely no political mandate.

I can do no better than repeat the words of Aneurin Bevan in 1956 for today, you Tories have “besmirched the name of Britain. You have made us ashamed of the things of which formerly we were proud. You have offended against every principle of decency and there is only one way in which you can even begin to restore your tarnished reputation and that is to get out! Get out! Get out!”

The NHS is being deliberately starved of funds, and this proves it

Dear Mr Cameron,

The latest NHS scam dreamt up by Jeremy Hunt and NHS boss, Simon Stevens, ex 10 year employee of global health firm UnitedHealth, is called ‘footprints’. This scam has all the hallmarks of out and out piracy rather than looking after the health of the nation.

Apparently Stevens has ‘told local health bosses that they must come up with a plan by 30th June to completely clear their massive shortfalls – within a year’. If they fail to do this, he has threatened that no further financial help (sic) will be available and that they risk losing their jobs, to be replaced  by ‘other’ organisations. Presumably more pirates.

Just to clear this up for the terminally stupid, our publicly owned and funded NHS is not a business and has no profit margins. The only way that a state funded organisation, which is being financially strangled to death by your government, can clear the funding shortfall imposed upon it by Hunt, is to cut, close and flog off anything that doesn’t move. Even as I write the pirates and vultures will be circling ready to pick over the remains of our once world class NHS (no reflection on those who work so hard to maintain it).

The so called ‘financial help’ that Stevens refers to is NHS core funding, it is its life blood. The shortfalls Stevens is so concerned about are the ones imposed by Hunt, it’s like blaming a child who is dying of starvation for not eating food after it has been stolen from her by unscrupulous thugs.

A publicly owned and funded organisation will die if its funds are cut. Who knew? That is exactly what you are doing to our NHS, wilfully, deliberately and with malicious intent to pave the way for pirates to take over our NHS and trouser our taxes as profit. It’s a double whammy, we lose the NHS we built and paid for and our taxes are further plundered to pay for a reduced private service, and/or an unaffordable health insurance rip off for a reduced private service (triple whammy), to increase the wealth of fat cats who doubtless stash their ill gotten gains in tax havens.

It’s daylight robbery, stealing our money and health from right under our noses. As angry as that makes me, that isn’t the worst of it, the worst of it is the lies, the arrogance, the smarmy voiced, smiling, deceit that drips out of every word from a bunch of rich over privileged thugs for whom health care is a done deal. Those who will never know want inflict want and suffering on those who can least bear it. That is yours and Hunt’s and Stevens dirty little game and it is rotten to the core. ‘Footprints’ is a curious choice of word unless Hunt is seeking to mock us as he puts the boot in, auctioning our lives for profit and stealing our health services.
